The Filmstudio Glückauf on the „Rü“ in Essen is not only one of the oldest cinemas in North Rhine-Westphalia but also a diamond among the regional movie theatres.
Opened in 1924 and entirely restored to detail it is most of all its charming atmosphere not only cineastes are impressed by. Already outside the building a historic film projector indicates that there is something very special to be found inside. Walking down the stairs covered with red carpet one gets to the historic foyer and bar in original 1950s style with kidney tables and tulip-shaped lamps. As a cultural forum the cinema has 250 seats and is an important place for premieres, previews and Q&As with directors and actors. On the trapeze-shaped stage all sorts of cultural events take place.
